Signed into law in California on Saturday, September 26th by Gov. Gavin Newsom, a law that allows inmates to be housed by the gender they identify as, as long as the state doesn't have "management or security concerns."
Transgender inmates are often and have always been housed based on the gender they were born. Men and women are to be housed separately which is why advocates say this is dangerous. Especially transgender women being housed with.Inmates are to be asked privately by officers whether they identify as transgender, nonbinary, or intersex. They then have a choice to either be housed with men or women.
Those requests can be denied by the state if they have "management or security concerns".
There are more details here.
This will absolutely be a problem. Let's see what happens and if other states will follow suit. California is always the prototype for the crazy stuff.
