Jay-Z steps into the music streaming business.
Jay-Z has decided to expand his business portfolio and recently acquired music streaming service TIDAL for $54 million. The company describes itself as “the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial”. The service has now been relaunched under the ownership of Jay-Z.
Currently, TIDAL does not offer any free options. Users can choose to pay either $19.99/month or $9.99 to be able to use the service. You can also get a 30 day trial to test things out.
It appears that TIDAL will be looking to secure exclusive and early access to new singles and projects. Most likely, artists on Jay-Z’s Roc Nation will be giving the platform their releases first. For example, Rihanna’s new single ‘Better Have My Money’ is only available on TIDAL at the moment.
Last night, various artists, such as Beyonce, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, J.Cole, Usher, Diddy and more, kicked off the campaign by changing their social media pictures and using the #TIDALforALL hashtag. They also appeared in a quick 30 second commercial for TIDAL. At 5PM EST, Jay-Z will be live streaming a special press conference to officially make the announcement.
