Have you ever been in a situation where you just finished working for this client,
You felt you did a great job,
The client seemed satisfied, but you just couldn't get yourself to ask for a testimonial.
It felt awkward.
You were probably wondering what if the client says no, or provides a poor testimonial,
Or you just didn't know how to go about asking for the testimonial
Ever felt that way?
Me too! When I first started out, I couldn't bring myself to ask for a testimonial even when the client was truly satisfied with the job.
Coupled with the impostor syndrome I was battling with at the time,
I know how it feels, it can be uncomfortable at first but once you get a hang of it, it becomes smooth sailing from there.
The benefits of having testimonials for your business is huge,
But here are some obvious reasons you should get testimonials from past clients…
- It makes you trustworthy: potential clients do not have to worry if you're a scam
- It shows what you can do: testimonials from real people saying yes, your business helped them achieved something is quite powerful
- It provides feedback on what you need to work on: testimonials are not all glossy, sometimes you get some feedback of customers concerns
Now,
How do you collect testimonials?
There are several ways to get testimonials for your business,
The method to use may be dependent on where you are now in your business and how you decide to approach it.
Just starting out and want quick testimonials?
Offer your product or service for free in exchange for a testimonial
This is a quick way to get the required social proof for a new product or service.
Don't want to work for free but still want some testimonials?
Offer a discount for your product or service in exchange for a testimonial
This works great too as people feel indebted to you when you give them discounts
You would need to state it clearly that the discounted price is in exchange for a testimonial.
Maybe you're not interested in beating down your price for reviews,
Simply ask for the testimonial
Yes, just ask the client for it.
You'll be surprised how many of your clients would be ready to give you reviews if you just asked for them.
There are so many more ways to ask for reviews and testimonials from your clients,
