Pharrell Teams Up With Al Gore To Bring ‘Live Earth’ Concerts To 6 Continents

Meet Pharrell Williams, the global citizen.
The uber-talented multi-hyphenate genius is teaming up with Al Gore for a second round of concerts to promote climate change awareness. Intended to serve as a precursor for the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference, the “Live Earth” series will hit seven cities around the world: New York, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Sydney, Cape Town, Antarctica and Paris on Jun. 18. Pharrell serves as the creative director of the event.
“Instead of just having people perform, we literally are going to have humanity harmonize all at once,” he said today (Jan. 21) in Switzerland.
The “Live Earth” concerts will also be broadcasted as a 24-hour event on nearly 200 television networks. The overall goal of the event is to demand that action be taken with regards to environmental issues, after a NASA study revealed that 2014 was the warmest year on record since 1880.
"The purpose is to have a billion voices with one message, to demand climate action now," Gore said.
Gore has been a longstanding proponent for climate change legislation, and teamed up with Pharrell back in 2007 for the first “Live Earth” concert series. Over 100 artists are scheduled to participate in this year’s effort.
