Angel Haze may be an NYC rapper, but she's emo like Macklemore. Instead of using her aggressive rhyme flow to dominate her competition, she turns Dirty Gold into a cathartic therapy session. "Black Synagogue" details her search for God. "Deep Sea Diver" marks the end of a love she's not sure should end, and she's not sure whether to seduce or preach to a stripper on "White Lilies / White Lies." Working with Arcade Fire producer Markus Dravs, she employs a voice that wavers between confidence and confusion as she looks for inner truth. She tries to rescue everyone, especially herself.
